A Brownstone in Brooklyn adopts a divisive color scheme that elicits strong reactions, proclaiming a living space "unable to evoke indifference".

In the heart of Brooklyn's South Slope neighborhood, a 1901 brownstone home has been given a stunning modern makeover by interior designer Crystal Sinclair. The home, now owned by Lauren and Will, who were previously living in Manhattan and seeking more space for their growing family, was originally priced at $110 but was purchased for $88.

The overall decor of the home is a midcentury modern style, with a unique tie to the brownstone itself. Crystal Sinclair's goal for the home's design was to create a feeling of ease for anyone who steps inside. She achieved this by incorporating various textures such as velvet, marble, and bouclé, which help create a sensual and cozy atmosphere.

The home's decor now has a vibe that leaves no one indifferent. Warm colors were carefully introduced in all the spaces to create depth, but without being overbearing. The kitchen palette is blue and green, while the bathroom features striking blue and lilac marble.

One of the most striking features of the home is the metal and glass wall installed to both separate and connect the main bedroom and the ensuite bathroom. A statement contemporary chandelier adds an extra dimension of visual interest to the home, available for $2,295.

The design team had to be mindful of the lighting and the size of the long, narrow rooms when optimizing the spaces. Red accent rugs, such as the one available for $349 (originally $409), can help create a cohesive space by using clashing colors, as demonstrated in this home.

Several contemporary artworks were chosen to complement the daring palette of the home. Subscribing to the website's newsletters provides trend forecasts, smart style ideas, and curated shopping inspiration.

Crystal Sinclair was recommended for the interior design of the spaces inside the home. The architect commissioned for the project was Amanda Nisbet. The Get The Look package, which includes ideas for recreating the home's unique style, costs $44.99.

The historic details of the brownstone, such as stained glass windows, plaster moldings, and paneling, have been preserved and integrated into the modern design, making for a truly unique living space.
