A Child-Operated Excitement Telephone Line Brings the Same Charm as Its Statement Implies
The Peptoc Hotline, a unique and heartwarming initiative, was launched by students at West Side Union Elementary School in Healdsburg, California on February 26, 2023. Guided by local artist and art teacher Jessica Martin, these young innovators have created a free hotline that connects callers with kindergartners for a dose of motivation and cheer.
Available at 707-998-8410, the hotline offers mini pep talks for a range of circumstances. Whether you're feeling mad, frustrated, or nervous, pressing 1 will provide advice to help you through. If you're in need of some encouragement or life advice, pressing 2 is your go-to. For a burst of laughter, pressing 4 will let you hear children laughing with delight. And if you prefer words of encouragement in Spanish, simply press 5.
The Peptoc Hotline has proven to be an instant mood-booster, providing motivational statements and words of affirmation from elementary schoolers. Since its launch, the hotline has gone viral, receiving between 300 and 500 calls an hour, and up to as many as 5,000 calls a day.
In addition to emotional support, the Peptoc Hotline can also be used as a cost-free way of fostering mental health. The project is funded by outside sources, and the school hopes to keep it running through the end of the school year.
