A few years ago, I found myself struggling to keep my house clean and organized. The mere thought of all the clutter and mess left me feeling overwhelmed and unmotivated. Despite my best efforts, I could never seem to get ahead.
Then, one day, I decided it was time for a change. I sat down and developed a weekly cleaning routine that has sticked with me for the past three years. And guess what? My home has never looked better.
Here's a breakdown of how I keep my home consistently clean.
A Weekly Routine for a Clutter-Free Home
Adopting a cleaning routine has revolutionized my home life. Whether you hate cleaning or secretly enjoy it, a cleaning routine will save you time and help you maintain a clean and organized space.
This weekly routine, along with my morning, nightly, and monthly routines, have been essential in keeping my home clean on a consistent basis.
Although some people may actually enjoy cleaning, I am not one of those people. However, what I do love is a clean home, and using routines, good cleaning habits, and useful cleaning hacks has made cleaning my home a much easier task.
What is a Weekly Cleaning Routine?
At its core, this weekly cleaning routine is a series of tasks assigned to each day of the week, focusing on a different room in the house. By concentrating on one room at a time, it's much easier to keep up with any remaining cleaning and tidying.
Due to my consistent adherence to this routine, it's now become second nature. After completing my morning routine, I up shift into my weekly cleaning routine and can usually complete them both in under an hour.
Of course, life happens, and there may be days when you're unable to adhere to your weekly cleaning routine. No worries! Just continue with your daily cleaning tasks and catch up when you can. Eventually, it will become easier for you, and you'll find that consistent cleaning will save you time and allow you to focus on other important tasks.
Tips for a Successful Cleaning Routine
Gather Your Supplies
Set yourself up for success by putting together a caddy of all your favorite cleaning supplies. Having supplies you enjoy using can make cleaning a more enjoyable task.
Clear the Clutter
Although it's not necessary, clearing the clutter before cleaning can make the process much easier because there are fewer obstacles in your way. If you're struggling to declutter, these beginner decluttering tips can help.
Set a Timer
Setting a timer can be a great way to stay focused and motivated when starting a new cleaning routine. If you're like me and enjoy a good challenge, a timer will help push you to keep going. Even if your cleaning routines are now second nature, consider setting a timer when you're feeling unmotivated.
Use Cleaning Checklists
Keeping a cleaning checklist handy can help keep you accountable for staying on top of your cleaning tasks. My free cleaning checklists (available below) will help you stay organized and maintain a consistently clean home.
Break it Down
Break larger cleaning tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. For example, the kitchen can be divided into simpler tasks such as wiping down countertops, cleaning the refrigerator, or tackling the sink.
