Anticipated Artist Portrait for June 2025: Terry Hoax
Terry Hoax, the German rock band that brought us "Policy of truth" in 1992, is back with their ninth studio album, "Celebrate Nothing." And if the upbeat tracks and energetic vibes are any indication, it's safe to say they've had a blast making music again.
Oliver Perau (OP) and Martin "Matze" Wichary (MW), the band's lead singer and guitarist, shared their thoughts on the new album and the process of making it.
"With the current state of the world, there isn't much reason to celebrate," OP expressed. "But it doesn't mean we should give up enjoying life. So, we celebrate the fact that there's nothing to celebrate."
The band's lineup has remained stable, with Kai Schiering replacing Armin Treptau on bass. This change may not seem significant, but for Terry Hoax fans, it's a big deal. The original lineup that led to their success in the 90s is now back together, and that's certainly worth celebrating.
MW added, "When we first started playing together again, there was a certain euphoria in the air. We found something that clicked, and we were able to build on it. That's definitely worth celebrating."
The new album, "Celebrate Nothing," is set to release on [TBA]. If the infectious energy and nostalgic feel of the new tracks are any indicator, it's bound to be a hit with longtime fans and new listeners alike.
"Welcome to tomorrow" and "Circle of desire" have the light, upbeat feel that would have fit perfectly on earlier albums like "Freedom Circus." Meanwhile, "The Last Call" and "Falling" evoke the raw energy and came-from- nowhere charm that characterized Terry Hoax in their early days.
As for the inspiration behind the album's title, MW acknowledged that it's a reflection of the band's current spirit. "We're having a great time making music again," he said. "The title 'Celebrate Nothing' just reflects how we feel."
In the meantime, catch Terry Hoax on their "Celebrate Nothing Tour" starting on [TBA]. For more information on tour dates and updates, visit www.terryhoax.de.
