Apple Harvesting Event in Alzenau's Wasserlos: 2 Tons Collected, Community Connected
Around 40 people, half of them children, gathered in Alzenau's Wasserlos district for an apple harvesting event. The initiative, a joint effort between the Öko-Modellregion district and Schlaraffenburger, marked the third such event. The Wasserlos scattered orchard, renovated in 2018, is home to around 60 fruit trees, mostly apple trees, cared for by Schlaraffenburger gGmbH.
The event saw nearly two tons of organic cider apples harvested. Kindergarten 'Die Wildbienchen' played a special role, providing support to the Schlaraffenburger harvesting team. Since 2007, the Deutsche Gartenbau-Gesellschaft has been involved in the project, acting as a supporting partner. Marcus Curtis, responsible for the harvest at Schlaraffenburger, described this year's harvest as good, a positive change after several drought-weakened years.
The event was themed 'Harvest, Share, Connect', involving participants in every step from shaking trees to loading apples. The aim was to strengthen organic scattered orchard farming as a sustainable agricultural form of land use for future generations.
