In the heart of Halle, the Kunststiftung des Landes is preparing for an extraordinary event. The exhibition titled "Premiere: Sachsen-Anhalt Buys Art" is set to open its doors on Friday, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the rich and diverse art collection amassed by the state of Saxony-Anhalt over the past 33 years.

Since 1991, Saxony-Anhalt has been steadfast in its support of artistic positions, acquiring works from both established and emerging local artists. This patronage has resulted in a collection that spans a wide range of art techniques, including tapestries, digital collages, painting, graphics, and jewelry art.

The exhibition features works by 47 artists, with 33 being female and 14 being male. Last year alone, Saxony-Anhalt spent approximately 147,890 euros on art purchases, with a focus on contemporary works of fine and applied art. Three artist books were also acquired last year, further enriching the collection.

Many of the works on display depict everyday life, and Halle plays a significant role. Some of the artists featured prominently in this exhibition include Narine Zolyan, Nora Mona Bach, Undine Hannemann, Korvin Reich, Anca Grigoriu, Viktor Ludvik, and Katrin Zickler.

Historically, Saxony-Anhalt is home to world heritage sites such as the Naumburg Cathedral, a major medieval art monument created by the renowned "Naumburg Master" in the 13th century. While not a modern acquisition, this cultural treasure greatly influences the identity and artistic narrative of the region.

Over the past three decades, Saxony-Anhalt has spent approximately 10.7 million euros on art purchases. The acquired art is displayed in various locations, including Magdeburg's state chancellery, the art college in Halle, Berlin, Bonn, Aschersleben, and other museums and offices.

The decision for further exhibitions lies with parties other than curators Anne Kaden and Magdalena Meißner, who meticulously selected works from a 2,000-page document with over 2,800 works for this exhibition. The exhibition brings together Saxony-Anhalt's acquisitions for the first time, offering a comprehensive look at the state's commitment to the arts.

The exhibition will be on display until August 31, offering visitors ample time to immerse themselves in the vibrant art scene of Saxony-Anhalt. This exhibition is a testament to the state's dedication to preserving and promoting its rich cultural heritage, as well as its ongoing support for local artistic talent.
