Aschaffenburg Launches 'Unpavement' Initiative to Transform City with Greenery
Aschaffenburg residents are invited to join the 'unpavement' initiative, aiming to replace sealed surfaces with greenery. The city has already started the project, with a small square in Nilkheim redesigned as part of the statewide scheme.
Citizens can participate by submitting before-and-after photos of unsealed areas via a special online portal. The initiative seeks to enhance the urban climate and improve the quality of life for residents. In Nilkheim, approximately 315 sqm of sealed surface was transformed into a lawn with three new trees and benches. The fountain at the square was retained during the redesign. A 'Star of the Month' project will be awarded monthly during the season to recognise participants' efforts. The three municipalities with the most unsealed area will be honoured in November 2025.
Aschaffenburg's participation in the 'unpavement' initiative is underway, with residents encouraged to contribute. The project's goal is to create greener, more liveable spaces, with rewards and recognition for active participants.
