At Grodno Zoo in Belarus, an elderly fox named Jasmine has served as a nurturing figure for two troubled orphaned foxes. Jasmine, who has been a resident of the zoo for a decade and demonstrated her maternal instincts before, found herself isolated from other foxes due to bullying.
Recently, two female fox kits were brought to the zoo – one with a broken leg, abandoned in a destroyed house, and the other, emaciated and traumatized, from a local institution. Both kits exhibited distressing behaviors upon arrival, making their rehabilitation and release into the wild challenging.
Determined to provide the orphaned foxes with necessary guidance and care, zoo staff introduced them to Jasmine. The strategy proved successful, even surprising specialists.
