Autumn arrival: Expansive renovation announced for Coach Museum

The much-anticipated reopening of the Carriage Museum at Augustusburg Castle is just around the corner, as it prepares to welcome visitors once more from the 27th of September. The museum, which boasts one of the largest carriage collections in Germany, has been meticulously renovated over the past three years, transforming it into a modern and engaging space for all to enjoy.

Director Patrizia Meyn (48) has overseen the complete overhaul of the museum, ensuring it remains up-to-date and accessible for visitors. Among the new features, eight themed rooms will showcase an array of wedding carriages and hearses, while a carriage ride simulator allows guests to navigate through an artificial landscape, offering a unique and immersive experience.

In addition to the themed rooms, the permanent exhibition area has been expanded to 1100 square meters, providing ample space to display 25 historical carriages and sleds from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. One of the museum's highlights is an "exploded carriage," which has been dismantled into its individual parts, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the intricate craftsmanship that went into creating these stunning vehicles.

Collection manager Tonio Schulze is responsible for the museum's extensive collection, which includes a gala carriage from the 19th century and a coupé wagon, among other treasures. Although there is no recent information about specific new additions to the collection, the museum promises to offer a diverse and captivating display of carriage history.

While work on Augustusburg Castle is still ongoing, the Carriage Museum stands as a testament to the rich history and culture of the region. For those eager to explore the museum's updated offerings, it is recommended to consult the official website or tourism resources for Augustusburg Castle for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

In the reimagined Carriage Museum at Augustusburg Castle, a home-and-garden lifestyle blend is apparent, as eight themed rooms display wedding carriages and hearses, while a simulator offers an immersive home-and-garden experience. The permanent exhibition area, covering 1100 square meters, houses historical home-and-garden artifacts like carriages and sleds from various centuries.
