In today's digital age, privacy is a significant concern for many individuals. One of the most commonly used platforms that collect user data is Google. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to limit Google tracking on Android and iPhone devices.

On iPhone:

  1. Stop app tracking entirely:
  2. Navigate to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
  3. Toggle off Allow Apps to Request to Track to block all apps from tracking you across other apps and websites.
  4. Turn off Google Web & App Activity:
  5. Open a browser or the Gmail app and visit your Google account activity page at myactivity.google.com.
  6. Under Web & App Activity, tap Turn off or Pause to stop Google from saving your activities across Google services.
  7. Disable other Google history:
  8. On the same Google activity page, also turn off Location History and YouTube History if desired.

On Android:

  1. Opt out of Ads Personalization:
  2. Go to Settings > Google > Ads
  3. Toggle on Opt out of Ads Personalization to stop Google from using your data to personalize ads.
  4. Turn off Google Web & App Activity:
  5. Visit myactivity.google.com as above and disable Web & App Activity.
  6. Also disable Location History and YouTube History if preferred.
  7. Disable background scanning and diagnostics tracking:
  8. To stop Google from scanning for nearby devices and reduce usage reporting, go to Google settings and disable:
    • Scan for Nearby Devices
    • Ad Topics, App-Suggested Ads & Ad Measurement
    • Usage & Diagnostics Reporting
  9. Turn off Google Assistant listening if undesired:
  10. Say, “Hey Google, open Assistant settings” or open the Google Assistant app.
  11. Under All settings > General, toggle off Google Assistant.
  12. Also in Google Maps, disable Access your Assistant with "Ok Google" under settings.

By following these steps, you can curb Google's ability to track your activities, personalize ads, and collect background data on both iPhone and Android devices. It's important to note that complete invisibility is challenging, but these actions significantly reduce tracking and data collection.

Additionally, your YouTube viewing history can be vulnerable to Google tracking. Using a VPN service like VeePN can help mask your IP address and potentially stop Google from tracking your location. Keeping your privacy while still enjoying personalized search results and ads requires giving up some privacy. Google timestamps your activity within a general area of more than one square mile with at least 1,000 other users to protect privacy.
