Counting Garden Birds: Identifying and tabulating the bird species in your backyard - "Bird Census Hour - Record Your Avian Neighbors"
Ever wondered how many blue tits, finches, robins, or sparrows inhabit our gardens and parks? The Nature Conservation Union Germany (NABU) and the Bavarian Nature Conservation Association LBV are calling on us to find out! This year, during the "Hour of Garden Birds" event, running from May 9 to 11, we're invited to spot and count birds. 🕒🐦
According to NABU, the focus this time around is on familiar, widely distributed bird species that can be found in our gardens, on balconies, or in parks. Why not catch a glimpse of this year's potential "Bird of the Year", the redstart, as they return from their winter quarters, foraging for insects in gardens [1]?
To participate, simply observe birds from your doorstep for an hour during the specified dates. Record the highest number of each species you see at the same time, then report your findings via the internet, an app, by post, or by phone. By doing so, you help the nature conservation associations gain insights into the current status of our avian friends, supplementing official population trends [1]. 📊📈
