Blooms Eternally - Sag's Strolls Through the Flower
Petals, Parfums, and Political Revolutions: The Flower's Multifaceted Role in Art, Culture, and History! The "Flowers Forever: Blooms in Art and Culture" exhibit at the Bucerius Kunst Forum takes visitors on a journey through the cultural history of flowers – from ancient times to the present day. With various galleries showcasing artworks, photographs, sculptures, and even a AI-powered installation, the show offers an exciting fusion of art and science. In one mirror-adorned room, visitors can control neon-colored flowers with gestures, feeling a whimsical Alice in Wonderland-like experience.
On the contrary, nestled in this modern floral playground is the original bridal bouquet of Empress Sissi worn at her wedding. Another highlight is a room adorned with dozens of suspended dried flowers, providing a stunning photography opportunity that leaves one feeling like they're walking through a forest.
Blooming Protest and Revolution
Though flowers may initially seem frivolous, the exhibition tackles weightier themes. In several installations, the Nelkenrevolution, a political upheaval in Portugal, is depicted, with original posters from the 1970s on display. The impact of the anti-Vietnam war movement is also showcased, as well as the peaceful activism of the renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei during his detention, where he created Porcelain sculptures ingeniously shaped like flower bouquets.
Visitors are encouraged to grab a complimentary audio guide to gain a deeper understanding of the symbolism, associations, and meanings behind the flowers on display.
