Mill of Brandenburg marks a significant milestone with anniversary celebration - Brandenburg mills commemorate milestone anniversary.
Lace up your boots, folks! This Whit Monday, mill enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Bechlin Mill in Neuruppin (Ostprignitz-Ruppin district) marks a whopping centennial, and the mill in Saalow, Am Mellensee community (Teltow-Fläming district) turns 30 years old - balloon drop not included! According to the Mill Association Berlin-Brandenburg and the Brandenburg Ministry of Culture, a grand total of 59 mills in Berlin and Brandenburg will join in on the festivities for this year's Mill Day.
Curious to get a sneak peek into how these marvels of yore operate? You're in luck! Mill Day features not only guided tours of water, wind, and motor mills, but also a plethora of activities to keep you entertained from dawn till dusk.
Head over to the Wilhelmsaue post mill in the Oderbruch, where guided tours are on the schedule, and kids can create their own mini Tetrapak windmills– a craft project worthy of a Pinterest board! If those aren't your jam, mills in the Berlin districts of Marzahn and Gatow, along with the German Museum of Technology, are also on the roster. Check out their specific offerings, and prepare to be dazzled!
Now, let's talk about Mill Day across Germany. Oh boy, does that take the cake! Around 600 historical mills will fling their doors wide open on Whit Monday for a nationwide celebration of milling heritage. The official opening? Don't act surprised, but it's happening at the upper mill and post mill in Bad Düben (Nordsachsen district).
However, the pièce de résistance of Mill Day is happening right here in Brandenburg. Culture Minister Manja Schüle (SPD) is our fairy godmother for the 32nd German Mill Day. In her words, mills are not only technological wonders but have also inspired poets, musicians, and artists throughout history. And she's not wrong! Their architectural heritage continues to shape our identity and stands as a symbol of unity and togetherness.
So, grab your hat and join the party! Mill Day is an unforgettable opportunity to immerse yourself in history, gaze upon marvels of engineering, and maybe learn a thing or two about why pumpkin spice lattes are just not the same without whirring windmill sounds.
