Cannabis Maze Unveiled in Saxony Switzerland: A New Exploration for Marijuana Enthusiasts
Nestled in the picturesque village of Krietzschwitz near Struppen, a unique agricultural and cultural attraction has sprouted – Saxony's first hemp maze. This living labyrinth, located on the B172, is more than just a recreational activity; it's a testament to the versatility and historical significance of hemp in the region.
Ines Senger, a board member of the Struppen agricultural cooperative, is the driving force behind this innovative initiative. The hemp maze, open daily until mid-September, is not just an educational tool, but a fun, interactive experience designed to enlighten visitors about the traditional and modern uses of hemp, from textiles to industrial applications.
The hemp maze spans over 2500 square meters and seamlessly transitions into a cornfield maze. At the crossroads, visitors encounter signs providing answers to questions about agriculture and the region. The goal of the maze is a large jumping castle made of hay bales.
The hemp plants used in the maze are industrial hemp, which must be registered during cultivation. They contain less than 0.3 percent THC, ensuring that visitors can spin and even smell the hemp without any harmful effects. After the maze is harvested, the corn will be used for silage for the cows.
The resurgence of interest in hemp cultivation in parts of Germany, including Saxony, is reflected in this initiative. Farmers and local communities are exploring sustainable agriculture options, with this hemp maze being one such example.
Ines Senger, who also keeps dairy and fattening cattle, grows seven different types of grain, fruit, and flowers on 1600 hectares. Last year, a similar hemp maze was set up in Threna near Leipzig. The Roth family, among others, finds this new attraction "totally cool" and pays a small fee to enter.
This initiative reflects efforts to promote local tourism, support agricultural diversity, and reconnect people with the cultural heritage of hemp in the region. So, if you're in Saxony, be sure to visit the hemp maze in Krietzschwitz near Struppen for an educational and entertaining experience!
