In the first half of 2025, the automotive market has seen a significant shift towards electric and hybrid vehicles. According to recent data, a total of 609,801 cars were sold, marking a 13.9% increase from the same period in 2024.

Hybrid cars have emerged as the top-selling car models, accounting for 41.6% of sales in the first semester. Interestingly, non-rechargeable hybrids are the best sellers, while only 3 out of 10 are gasoline. The number of rechargeable vehicles is also growing, and electric vehicles have overtaken diesel.

The Dacia Sandero remains the most chosen model by buyers, with the Renault Clio moving up to 2nd place. The MG ZS, which has seen a surge in popularity, now holds 2nd place among the leading models in sales, while the Dacia Sandero maintains its top position.

Toyota is the most sold brand, with almost 50,000 units sold in the first half of the year. Volkswagen comes in 3rd place with 39,644 units, and Renault takes the 2nd spot with 45,190 units. Seat, Kia, Dacia, Hyundai, Peugeot, Mercedes, MG, and Toyota are the top 8 selling car brands.

Small city cars, such as the Hyundai i10 and Renault 5, and small cars like the Dacia Sandero and Renault Clio are popular choices. Mid-size SUVs, like the Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia Sportage, are in high demand, as are large SUVs such as the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BYD Seal U, and Tesla Model Y.

Compact cars like the Toyota Corolla, Citroën C4, Seat León, and sedans like the Tesla Model 3, Dacia Jogger, and Škoda Octavia are also in demand. Notably, the Toyota Corolla has dropped off the Top 10 list, while the Peugeot 208, Renault Captur, and Nissan Qashqai have made a strong entrance.

The car market in Germany has seen a similar trend. Mercedes is in the second highest sales position in 2025 (up to August), following Volkswagen which leads the market. BMW holds the third position. This ranking is based on new car registrations, with Volkswagen first, Mercedes second, and BMW third.

MG is making a strong impact in the market, surpassing 23,000 cars sold in the first half of the year. The Suzuki SX4, Honda Jazz, DFSK E5, and Mercedes-Benz T-Class are among the top-selling small MPVs, while the VW Touran, Mercedes-Benz B-Class, and Mercedes-Benz T-Class lead in compact MPV sales.

As we move towards the second half of the year, it will be interesting to see how these trends continue to evolve and which brands and models will maintain their lead in the competitive automotive market.
