In the city of Solingen, a new initiative called "Biodiversity in the Garden" invites residents to create species-rich gardens, while the "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" campaign, now entering its fourth round, focuses on planting trees in private gardens and public spaces.

The "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign has been running for some time, but the exact start date is unspecified. On the other hand, the "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" campaign has been active since 2022.

For the "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign, the city provides around 150 high-stemmed deciduous trees annually. Residents can apply for a tree sponsorship for their private garden, and the city will deliver and plant the trees free of charge.

Solingen residents will receive expert advice on which tree species best suits their personal preferences and the conditions on their property. An experienced gardener will create a planting plan for a ten-square-meter area at no cost.

Interested Solingen residents can find practical tips for designing species-rich beds online at a specified URL. They can also choose to plant the beds themselves or hire a service provider to implement the plan.

The "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" campaign in Solingen follows a similar process. Participants submit an application, choose a tree species from a selection suitable for the local environment, and take responsibility for the ongoing care and maintenance of their tree.

Applications for both campaigns can be submitted until the end of August. Sponsors are responsible for watering, maintaining, and preserving their new tree in the long term.

The "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign focuses on creating species-rich gardens, while the "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" campaign emphasises planting trees in private gardens. Both campaigns aim to promote biodiversity in Solingen and foster a community connection to urban greenery.

The city's tree selection includes species and varieties that are well-adapted to changing climate conditions and are also insect-friendly. So far, 40 households have participated in the "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign, and the number continues to grow.

For detailed instructions on the application modalities, species list, and exact maintenance duties for both campaigns, residents are encouraged to consult the official Solingen city website or contact the local environmental office.

The "Biodiversity in the Garden" campaign encourages Solingen residents to create sustainable-lifestyle home-and-garden spaces by providing advice, tree sponsorships, and planting plans, aiming to enhance biodiversity and urban greenery within the community. The "People Need Trees - Trees Need People" campaign also focuses on the planting of trees, but in private gardens, promoting sustainable-living practices and fostering a connection with nature.
