Commencing grilling extravaganza:
The grilling season has officially begun in Austria, and despite a gloomy economic climate and increased costs, the craving for summer grilling fun remains undiminished. According to a survey by TQS, commissioned by Yuu'n Mee, 60% of Austrians plan to continue opting for meat at their barbecues.
In the world of grilling, the Weber lighting set is highly recommended for hassle-free and effortless lighting, especially on windy evenings. This accessory helps the grill reach operating temperature quickly, making outdoor cooking a breeze. The Weber electric grill, a modern and practical option, is also gaining popularity among Austrians for preparing grilling specialties.
Pork and beef are the most popular choices for grilling among Austrians, with pork taking the lead. However, there has been a noticeable increase in the consumption of fish, with 9% of Austrians grilling trout (Forelle), carp (Karpfen), and catfish (Wels), common freshwater choices due to their local availability. For those seeking seafood experiences, grilled octopus and various mussels are popular in seafood restaurants offering Mediterranean flavors.
The rise in beef prices has caused concern in retail, but Spar spokesperson Nicole Berkmann confirmed that the veggie trend is popular but meat consumption remains robust. Eight percent of Austrians grill shrimp, indicating a growing interest in lighter, international grilling experiences.
Yuu'n Mee, a provider of Asian seafood products, is delighted by this growing interest. "We are seeing a significant increase in demand for our products as Austrians explore new flavors and grilling techniques," said a spokesperson for Yuu'n Mee.
Despite the challenges, meat producer Wiesbauer achieved a group turnover of 237 million euros in 2024, offering a stable result. Spokesperson for Wiesbauer, Michael Schmidt, remains optimistic about the grilling season. "We are confident that we can navigate these challenging conditions and continue to provide quality products to our customers," he said.
In conclusion, Austria remains a grilling nation, with the love for outdoor cooking continuing to thrive, even as meat prices rise. Whether it's the traditional barbecue or trying out new international flavors, Austrians are determined to make the most of the grilling season.
