Larimer County, Colorado, is gearing up for a week of exciting events to celebrate National Public Lands Day, taking place from September 18 to 27. The Larimer County Department of Natural Resources (LCDNR) has organised a series of free community activities and volunteer opportunities, aimed at showcasing the value of public lands and promoting conservation efforts.

For more details about the department and its work, visit larimer.gov/naturalresources.

The week's events will take place on various public lands in Northern Colorado, including Devil's Backbone Open Space, Canyon Edge Open Space, River Bluffs Open Space, and Poudre River Trail. These events will offer a unique opportunity to learn about the geology, wildlife, and history of these beautiful open spaces.

One of the highlights of the week is the "Geology of Devil's Backbone" program, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24. To sign up, visit offero.larimer.org/calendar. Another must-see event is "Leave it to Beavers!", taking place at River Bluffs Open Space and Poudre River Trail on Friday, Sept. 19.

The events are not just educational; they also offer a chance to give back to the community. The Arapaho Bend Pond Clean-Up, a partner program with Fort Collins Natural Areas, will take place on Thursday, Sept. 18, at Carter Lake, Flatiron, and Pinewood reservoirs. On Saturday, Sept. 27, a litter cleanup project will take place at Carter Lake Area. Both events are open to all ages.

In addition to these events, LCDNR is hosting a series of guided programs to showcase the value of public lands. These programs are part of the weeklong celebrations and will provide a chance to explore the beauty of Larimer County's open spaces with knowledgeable guides.

LCDNR manages nearly 100 miles of trails and has conserved more than 57,000 acres of land, with the aim of protecting local watersheds and recreation areas. The department is led by Director Marty Silverstein and Deputy Director Kory Bowers.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn, explore, and contribute to the conservation of Larimer County's public lands. Register for the events today and join the celebration!
