Mark your calendar for the first ever Neustadt Platt-Fish Day, happening in the Lübeck Bay on June 7, 2025 - a cultural, culinary, and maritime extravaganza. From 10am until 6pm, the grounds of Germany's oldest fishing office will be a buzz with flatfish feasts, workshop wonders, and fascinating tales.
This one-of-a-kind event is designed to indulge your hunger for fish while reviving the traditional fishing trade. The seasoned fisherman at the Fischeramt are eager to share their wise words and unbridled passion.
Maritime Magic and Hands-On Fun
Prepare to embark on an adventure as you explore the Fischeramt and its annexed fishing museum, led by experienced fisherman, Volker, who'll be talking fish in Plattdeutsch, but don't sweat the lingo – help will be on hand for novice speakers. Elsewhere, join Thomas, another seafaring soul, as he shows off his knot-tying expertise. Frank, the sorcerer of smoke, will bewitch you with tantalizing aromas and teach a thing or two about smoking fish.
Step aboard the "Molly," where the Neustadt Angling Club welcomes visitors to set sail. The German Maritime Search and Rescue Association (DGzRS) will fill you in on their vital sea-faring missions. Fun for little ones includes face painting, glitter tattoos, and a visit to "Makeable Lübeck" for artsy pursuits like printing.
Flatfish Trivia Challenge
Lace up your thinking caps and put your flatfish knowledge to the test in the enticing sole quiz. Prizes are up for grabs, including restaurant vouchers, overnight beach stays, boat rentals, marine memorabilia, and fresh fish market vouchers.
