Citizen Information Event Announced for New Sustainable Residential Quarter in Niersenbruch
Residents of Niersenbruch are invited to attend a citizen information event on August 25th, 6 PM, at meeting room 1 of the town hall. The event will provide details about the "New Residential Area in Niersenbruch," a future-oriented and sustainable residential quarter plan that aims to create a harmonious living space that blends seamlessly with the surrounding buildings and transitions to the open landscape.
The urban framework plan, which was declared the winner in a competition held in 2021, covers approximately 7.7 hectares and includes two central green corridors that integrate existing high-value tree structures and serve as public open spaces. These green corridors provide residents with accessible recreational areas, promote biodiversity, and encourage sustainable mobility by supporting pedestrian and bicycle pathways.
The residential area will be divided into smaller, human-scale neighborhoods, each with its own identity and mix of housing types. This approach fosters close-knit communities and creates a varied urban fabric that responds to diverse housing needs.
In addition to the green infrastructure and thoughtful neighborhood planning, the plan also includes a strong emphasis on local supply and services within the quarter. Plans include establishing local markets and small commercial zones that provide essential goods and services nearby, reducing the need for long-distance travel, encouraging local economic activity, and supporting everyday convenience for residents.
District heating supply by the municipal utilities will be discussed at the citizen information event, providing residents with an opportunity to learn more about the energy-efficient heating options available in the new residential quarter.
The Mayor of the area, Prof. Dr. Christoph Landscheidt, has commented on the plan, expressing his support for the sustainable and community-focused approach taken by the designers, New Architects.
The citizen information event is an opportunity for all interested parties to attend and gain a better understanding of the "New Residential Area in Niersenbruch" plan. The event will present the usage concept and infrastructure of the quarter, serving as the basis for further detailed planning and the development of the building plan. All are welcome to attend and participate in shaping the future of Niersenbruch.
The event will discuss the proposed usage concept and infrastructure of the "New Residential Area in Niersenbruch," which includes the integration of green spaces for recreation and promoting biodiversity, as well as local markets and small commercial zones for sustainable living ('lifestyle'). This future-oriented residential quarter is designed to be a harmonious home-and-garden blend with the surrounding landscape, encouraging community-focused living and local economic activity within its 7.7 hectares ('home-and-garden').
