Construction underway at Caritas Housing for modern upgrade

The Caritas Hostel located in Hugo-Wolf Street, Ingolstadt, is set for a significant two-year renovation beginning October 2022. The project aims to modernise and improve the living environment, making it more accessible and inclusive for all residents, with a special focus on vulnerable groups such as women and abstinent individuals.

The renovation will see three existing rooms transformed into two, each with a bathroom, to provide residents with improved living quarters. In addition, multiple new entrances will be added to the hostel for easier access, and toilets and showers will be created in the living areas. The hostel will also be extended with a wooden construction and part of the offices will be accommodated on a new fourth floor.

To cater to the specific needs of women and abstinent residents, separate spaces will be created within the renovated hostel. Each floor will feature single rooms, a feel-good room for body care, and community rooms to promote social interaction. The hostel will also have a friendly reception area with waiting rooms, a separate room for the medical service, and an overnight room for the night shift.

During the renovation, the office staff will temporarily relocate to a building in Gaimersheimer Street 15. The 30 residents of the hostel will be temporarily housed in a building of the Caritas Center St. Vinzenz in Handelstrasse 97a.

The Caritas Association for the Diocese of Eichstätt is the operator of the facility, which has been providing assistance and advocacy for long-term unemployed, homeless, ex-offenders, addicts, mentally ill, and other at-risk individuals since its inception in 1964. The hostels of Caritas Hostels and Workshops are the only stationary facility for homeless assistance in Ingolstadt.

Grants are planned for the renovation, with the Caritas Association covering the largest part of the costs. The estimated cost for the renovation is around 12.5 million euros. The renovation was recently presented to the neighbours of the house by the deputy Caritas director, Andreas Steppberger, Michael Rinnagl, and Martin Ganser from the Caritas building department.

Upon completion, the rebuilt Caritas Hostel will be barrier-free and wheelchair-accessible, reflecting the organisation's commitment to providing a supportive, inclusive, and accessible living environment for all residents. The renovation project will not only modernize the living environment of the Caritas Hostel by creating separate spaces for women and abstinent residents, but it will also focus on improving the home-and-garden lifestyle of the residents, with improved living quarters, accessible entrances, and communal areas for social interaction. After the renovation, residents can expect a lifestyle that caters to their specific needs while promoting a more inclusive and accessible home-and-garden environment.
