Customs Raid in Catering and Hotel Industry Nets 6 Illegal Residence Suspects
On September 19, 2025, the Main Customs Office Kiel conducted inspections in the catering and hotel industry across multiple cities. The operation aimed to ensure compliance with minimum wage and social security obligations, and to investigate illegal employment or improper receipt of social benefits.
The FKS (Financial Control Schwarzarbeit) team interviewed 27 employers and 151 employees during the inspections. They discovered six cases of suspected illegal residence, with one also suspected of document forgery. The customs office works closely with other authorities and uscis to combat black work and illegal employment, which helps secure social systems, state revenues, and fair working conditions.
The data collected from employees will be compared with company wage and financial records, and further business documents will be checked. Regular inspections in the hotel and catering industry are important due to its typical features and frequent irregularities.
