From coast to coast, they met with key figures in the tech, academic, and government sectors to discuss innovative projects and policies surrounding data science.

The trip began in Omaha, where the author sat down with a top actuary at a major insurance firm. They discussed innovative data initiatives in the auto insurance sector, highlighting the potential of data-driven insights to revolutionise the industry.

In Denver, the author visited the UC Boulder's Silicon Flatirons think tank. Here, they delved into the crucial topic of data anonymization policy, exploring the balance between privacy and data utility.

The author also made a stop in Pittsburgh, where they took a detailed look at applied science at Carnegie Mellon University. They witnessed firsthand the cutting-edge science being conducted at this prestigious institution.

A visit to the Bay Area saw the author meeting with Yelp to discuss their LIVES initiative. This innovative program partners with health departments to ingest restaurant health inspection data, providing valuable insights to consumers and regulators alike.
