Almaty's Spring Cleanup and Tribute to Heroes

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and lend a hand as the city of Almaty hosts a massive cleanup event, celebrating the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. This citywide extravaganza will see public spaces, parks, squares, and courtyards transformed into vibrant, green oases.

Expect a diverse crowd as citizens, volunteers, law enforcement officers, military academy representatives, city council members, public figures, and Kazakhstani music, sports, and blogging stars unite to honor our heroes and clean up the city.

The agenda is packed with various tasks, including street and park sanitation, pole and fence painting, cleaning of irrigation channels, tree planting, grass mowing, green zone restoration, and repair work on greened areas.

To support participants, the Almaty Akimat will provide tree saplings, cleaning and planting equipment, and branded apparel like caps, t-shirts, and commemorative "Victory" ribbons.

Picture this: starting at 9 a.m. on May 8, the cleanup event will be underway across all of Almaty. To make it easier for you to join, here's a list of main spots in each of the city's eight districts:

  • Auezov District: Microdistrict 1, Altynsarin Avenue (from Zhubanov Street to Ulugbek Avenue).
  • Alatau District: Baghanaly Ordasy Park.
  • Almaly District: Amanjol Street (from Tole Bi Street to Kazybek Bi Street).
  • Bostandyk District: "Jas Kanat" Park.
  • Jetysu District: "Ratushnoye" Park.
  • Medeu District: Park of the 28 Panfilov Heroes.
  • Nauyryzbai District: Aksai Street, "Akjar" Park.
  • Tursib District: Naberezhny Street, 123, near the Mayak.

Throughout the event, expect a festive vibe, with mini-concerts, master classes, and interactive platforms at each location. Adding to the atmosphere will be performances of military songs and numbers dedicated to heroism and veterans, reinforcing the patriotic focus and the special significance of the spring cleanup, coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

During this community cleanup, representatives from businesses, KSK, OSI, and others responsible for adjacent territories will participate. Part of the beautification rules requires these entities to maintain order, repair facades, and keep objects in good condition. A beautification passport assigns responsibility for the territory, increasing the social role of building owners.

For your convenience, a bus service will be available from the Baykonur metro station to the cleanup locations.
