Emergency Medical Coordination to Transpire Among Turkic Nations, Initiated by Kazakhstan

A Fresh Perspective on Medical Emergency Collaboration

ASTANA - The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has taken a significant step towards cross-border medical cooperation. On April 7, health ministers signed a memorandum, transforming Kazakhstan's National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine into a united platform for this collaborative effort, as reported by the Central Communications Service.

This center is designed to ensure timely delivery of emergency medical care during crises, pandemics, and accidents.

Speaking about the development, Kazakh Health Minister Akmaral Alnazarova highlighted the country's air ambulance service, which conducts over 2,000 flights yearly, transporting patients domestically and abroad. With helicopters stationed in 15 regions, two more will be added by the end of the year. Alnazarova announced plans for the first international air ambulance flight to South Korea, moving a critically ill citizen to a clinic in Almaty. Unlike many countries, these air ambulance services are fully state-funded and free of charge, saving the lives of citizens each time they are utilized.

The center’s Chairman, Yerzhan Adilbekov, emphasized that this platform will serve as a foundation for training OTS specialists jointly. Collaborative efforts are already underway, with Uzbek colleagues scheduled to conduct masterclasses at the simulation center, helping emergency doctors adhere to world standards. Moreover, the center boasts a national stroke center that coordinates emergency care for stroke cases. Plans are in place to expand into emergency care in obstetrics, toxicology, and other areas.

The National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine in Kazakhstan functions as a versatile hub coordinating medical aviation, ambulance services, and hospital admissions. It houses a 250-bed hospital and nine clinical centers, offering inpatient care, diagnostics, and specialized emergency services.

As the center grows, it aims to improve in several key areas:- Obstetrics: Emergency care for high-risk pregnancies and related complications.- Toxicology: Management of poisoning and cases involving hazardous substances.- Stroke Care: Enhancing its national stroke center to standardize rapid-response protocols.
