"Film's Architectural Depictions"

Get ready for a unique blend of architecture, philosophy, and captivating visuals! On June 17th, head over to Kino der Jugend (Eisenbahnstraße 158), for the screening of "7 Chapels", a thought-provoking documentary film as part of the "Architecture in Film" series.

This creative endeavor is the brainchild of renowned architects, who, between 2018 and 2020, designed seven prayer and meditation spots along a bike path in the Swabian Donautal. The movie, directed by Jens Weber and Orla Connolly, presents these wooden edifices as a study in vision and offers an intriguing exploration of their structures, spaces, and lighting atmospheres.

Not just visually striking, "7 Chapels" also delves into the human experience, capturing a spectrum of emotions as people interact with these buildings – from the mundane to the profound. The cinematography exhibition seamlessly merges the artistic vision of an architectural and portrait photographer. The minimalist to meditative music, wonderfully composed by Wolfram Oettl, provides the perfect backdrop to this experimental journey.

The evening kicks off at 6 pm with a thematic introduction to the venue's renovation. Nora Gitter, building culture coordinator, and Winfried Endres from the WEA winfried endres architects office will discuss the restoration of a cinema in Leipzig's east. Endres will also share insights into their office's philosophy on sustainable building.

Doors open for the movie at 7 pm. Unfortunately, the ongoing renovation at Kino der Jugend means the seating and comfort amenities are slightly limited. To ensure your safety during the construction, hard hats will be available at the cinema.

"Architecture in Film" is a joint event series by the Center for Building Culture Saxony (ZfBK) and the city of Leipzig. Every month they showcase cinematic and television productions offering unique perspectives on architecture. Admission to these events is always free.

Mark your calendars for the next event in the series on August 12th, featuring the film "The Garden" by Derek Jarman.
