Stuttgart Netze Graffiti Project Brings Color and Community to Hallschlag

In the heart of Stuttgart, a vibrant transformation is taking place at Hallschlag 35/1, where a large graffiti artwork has been created on a transformer station. This project, led by the artist duo Jan Haas and Bernard Sakic, is part of a broader initiative aimed at fostering a sense of community and inclusivity in the neighborhood - the Social City initiative [1].

Stuttgart Netze, the local energy distribution grid operator, is supporting this project by providing their infrastructure for artistic expression. As a subsidiary of the Stuttgart municipal utilities, Stuttgart Netze is also committed to sustainability and social responsibility, playing a crucial role in Stuttgart's efforts towards climate neutrality by 2035 [1].

The graffiti, which is the 27th project where Stuttgart Netze provides its buildings as a public art space, features themes of youth, diversity, and social cohesion. The motif is based on content guidelines around the new youth house "376" in Hallschlag [1]. The artwork is embedded in the long-term development of the quarter as a social urban space, making transformer stations into places that foster identification.

Gritta Rotter from the Department of Urban Planning and Housing emphasizes the visibility and central location of the project, which is part of the urban development project "Bad Cannstatt 20 - Hallschlag" in Stuttgart. The state of Baden-Württemberg co-financed the project, and Marlies Hummel-Dietz, commercial management of Stuttgart Netze, was present at the inauguration of the newly designed transformer station in Hallschlag [1].

The project also forms part of the "Social City Hallschlag" project, which can be explored further on www.zukunft-hallschlag.de. The photo of the inauguration is provided by Stuttgart Netze. Additionally, the project is a part of the urban development funding program "Urban districts with special development needs - The Social City" and was funded with means from the non-investment urban development promotion [1].

Stuttgart Netze is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the electricity and gas networks in Stuttgart, playing a vital role in the city's energy transition efforts [1]. With this graffiti project, they are not only investing in the further development of the networks but also contributing to the improvement of the urban environment by transforming functional facilities into vibrant symbols of community values.

In conclusion, the Stuttgart Netze graffiti project in Hallschlag is a testament to the power of public art in fostering a sense of community and promoting social cohesion. By providing infrastructure for artistic expression, Stuttgart Netze is supporting urban-social projects aligned with sustainability and community development, ultimately enhancing neighborhood identity, public space aesthetics, and community spirit in Hallschlag [1].
