Gießen Stadtbibliothek Revamps Collection by Genre and Author
Gießen Stadtbibliothek has revamped its collection, now categorising books by genres and authors' last names. This change, requested by patrons, took place over the weekend with no disruption to services.
The library has replaced its old numeric system with a 'speaking' classification, dividing books into twelve genres such as 'Crime / Thriller' or 'Historical'. These genres are further sorted alphabetically by authors' last names. The romance collection, comprising around 10,000 items on the third floor, has been reorganised as part of this transition.
The library implemented this change following a public survey conducted last year. The physical rearrangement took place during the library's closure over the weekend, ensuring no disturbance to regular operations.
Gießen Stadtbibliothek's new classification system, based on genres and authors' last names, is now in place. This change, driven by patron requests, aims to enhance navigation and discovery within the collection.
