Handmade Cross Stitch Pillow Bringing Joy to Its Owner
Let's kick it with this cool DIY cross stitch pillow cover project (and don't forget the fun pom pom trim!)
Hey there, buddy! This is Sam, the crafty chick from Pretty Life Girls, and I've got a sick little project for you today.
Check it: I made this sweet DIY pillow for my kiddo's nursery, and it's the bomb. Cross-stitching is my therapy, so it helped me keep my cool while dealing with that scary first-time mom stuff.
A badass DIY pillow like this one is the perfect addition to any room that needs a bit of a boost. It'd also make an awesome gift for a baby shower, wedding, or whatever.
But, enough about all that. Let's dive into making this nifty home decor.
Cross-Stitch Pillow
What You'll Need:
- Blank pillow cover (I went with this one)
- Cross-stitch hoop
- Embroidery thread
- Cross-stitch needle
- Pom Pom Ribbon
- Cross-stitch pattern
- Scissors
If you can't find the pillow cover I linked, no worries! You need a cotton canvas pillow cover that you can embroider on. There are a few options here. Make sure to wash and dry it first before getting started so any shrinkage is taken care of.**
What You'll Do:
- Mark the cross-stitch pattern on your pillow cover. If your cover has a grid pattern, you can just eye-ball the pattern and stitch it up.
TIP: Here's a guide on how to transfer embroidery patterns if you need help.
- Slap the cross-stitch hoop onto the pillow cover, surrounding the pattern area, to tighten the fabric.
- Cross-stitch the fuck out of it, changing thread colors whenever you feel like it.
- Pin the pom pom trim around the pillow cover's edge.
- Stitch those pom poms in place with thread that matches your pillow.
- Shove some solid-ass pillow in the cover and put it where you think it looks good.
There's no end to the wicked quotes and song lyrics you can put on the front of your pillow. And something about the pom-pom trim just takes it to the next level – it adds that perfect pop of color that finishes the project off.
That's it. Happy cross-stitchin'! Come on over to The Pretty Life Girls and hang with my sister and me as we chat about fashion, food, and all the cool shit we love.
