Heavy precipitation in Munich leads to benefits for certain industries

The rainy weather in Munich this summer has had a positive impact on various industries, with people seeking shelter and entertainment indoors.

On Monday, July 28, the German Museum saw a record number of visitors since the reopening of the renovated part, with nearly 8,500 guests. This is a significant increase compared to previous years. Similarly, the current exhibition "Civilization. How we live today" at the Kunsthalle was very well visited.

The weather in Munich has been cold, rainy, and below 20 degrees, making indoor activities more attractive. The Kunsthalle in Munich has seen an increase in visitors due to the rainy weather, with at least twice as many visitors coming to the gallery on each of the past two weekends compared to the previous weekends.

Special screenings, like those within the framework of the Munich Film Art Weeks, ran very well. Cinemas, such as City-Kinos am Stachus, have very good visitor numbers, with more visitors than usual for the period from October/November or January/March.

The Therme Erding had twice as many sauna visitors as last year at this time during the rainy summer. The Schirm-Café in the New Town Hall also reported increased sales of rain protection items such as small raincoats and walking sticks.

Shopping centers like PEP Neuperlach and Riem Arcaden were busy over the weekend, but Bernd Ohlmann from the Bavaria Retail Association states that shopping is psychology, and rain dampens the shopping mood. However, the summer clearance sale is currently running slowly due to the lack of interest in swimwear, bikinis, barbecue coal, pools, fans, or summer clothes.

The rainy weather has also acted as an additional incentive for visits to the Bavaria Filmstadt. Tourists and locals were among the customers at the Schirm-Café, and they made twice as much as they usually do in the summer. Between 7,000 and 8,000 visitors flocked to the Erdinger thermal bath daily. Meinrad David Aumiller, from the Schirm-Café in the New Town Hall, is happy about the rain as it boosted umbrella sales.

There is hope for retail as it is supposed to get summery warm again. However, the exact number of increased visitors to the Kunsthalle was not specified by the spokesperson.

In light of the increased indoor activities due to the rainy weather, the home-and-garden sector may witness a rise in demand for rain protection items such as small raincoats and walking sticks, as seen in the Schirm-Café's increased sales. Furthermore, the current rainy weather could potentially influence the lifestyle choices of Munich residents, perhaps leading to a shift towards indoor gardening or home improvement projects.
