Henkel Discontinues Iconic Fa Soap After 7 Decades

Henkel, the German consumer goods giant, has discontinued the production of its iconic Fa soap after over seven decades. The unusual yellow-green soap, known for its distinctive color, is no longer available in stores like Rossmann and dm, and its production has ceased both domestically and internationally.

Fa soap was first introduced in 1954 by Dreiring KG, a Henkel subsidiary. It quickly became a symbol of western consumer culture in the former GDR, often sent via 'West packages'. However, Henkel's restructuring in summer 2022, which saw the merger of its detergents and body care areas, led to the discontinuation of Fa soap.

The soap's unique color and usefulness, particularly in cars during winter, made it a popular choice. However, the last remaining stocks were sold at the beginning of the year. Henkel caused a stir in the late 1960s with TV spots featuring naked women, but the company has since repositioned the Fa brand.

Henkel's decision to discontinue Fa soap marks the end of an era. While the soap's distinctive color and usefulness will be missed, the company's restructuring and focus on other brands mean Fa soap will no longer be produced or sold. Fans of the soap will have to rely on their last remaining stocks.
