Hoerstgen Icebirds Celebrate 10 Years of Nature-Focused Scouting
The Hoerstgen Icebirds, a vibrant scout troop, recently celebrated their tenth anniversary with over 200 guests and former members. The group, recognized for their strong nature focus and diverse activities, has grown significantly since their inception in 2012.
The Icebirds began with just 25 children at their first watch on a local family's land. Today, they consist of 70 active scouts and many friends and supporters. Their varied activities include playing, laughing, learning practical skills like hammering and sawing, singing, cooking, tying knots, making fires, and offering first aid courses. They also enjoy regular hikes and litter collection days, reflecting their strong interest in history.
The Scout Association of the Free Evangelical Churches officially recognized the troop as an independent group in 2018, and they were named 'Hoerstgen Icebirds'. This recognition has allowed them to grow and flourish, with two scout groups now meeting every Friday at 5 pm on their dedicated scout plot. A biblical reflection is also a regular part of their program offerings, providing spiritual guidance alongside their practical and adventurous activities.
Birgit Ullrich, chairwoman of the youth welfare committee of Kamp-Lintfort, praised the work of the Hoerstgen Icebirds, highlighting their positive impact on the local community. As they celebrate their tenth anniversary, the Icebirds look forward to continuing their mission of providing fun, educational, and spiritually enriching experiences for their members.
