Hungry customers in Braunschweig find relief as bakery closes, swiftly replaced by new vendors
New Kretzschmar Bakery Opens in Brunswick's City Center
After a period of anticipation, the Kretzschmar bakery has officially reopened its doors in Brunswick's city center. The traditional bakery, with a six-generation history, has taken over the location previously occupied by the Mechau bakery, which closed this summer.
The new Kretzschmar bakery promises to offer a blend of traditional favourites and innovative new products. According to recent reports, the bakery will introduce coffee on a stick and homemade ice cream, in addition to some bestsellers from the Mechau bakery such as root bread, curry confectionery, and Gerster bread.
Stefan Kretzschmar, the current owner, has secured a new location for two of his bakery branches. The first branch, located on Dürerstraße, reopened on the 5th of July, following a facelift to provide customers with an updated and inviting atmosphere.
The second branch in Schunterstraße is expected to open after the summer holidays. News38 spoke to the owner, who expressed excitement about the opportunities the new location presents for expanding the bakery's offerings and serving the Brunswick community.
The Kretzschmar bakery has been a staple in Brunswick for 130 years, with this year marking its 135th anniversary. The bakery is particularly proud of its classic ice cream flavours and creative options like limoncello ice cream and vegan fruit ice cream.
The closure of the Mechau bakery may have been a significant change, but it seems that the Brunswick community has embraced the new bakery as a popular successor. The reopening of the Kretzschmar bakery is not a reason to be sad, as a new chapter in the city's bakery history begins.
