This summer, Munich's English Garden will once again play host to the enchanting world of Shakespeare as the Munich Summer Theatre presents "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Running from July 3 to July 26, 2025, the performances will take place every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, with showtimes starting at 9 pm.

The amphitheater, located at the Stauwehr Oberföhring and the Crailsheimstraße on the Schwabing side, offers a unique outdoor setting for this classic production. In case of inclement weather, the performances will be moved to the Mohr Villa, Situlistraße 73.

Admission to the performance is free, though donations are welcome, and audience members are invited to bring their own picnics.

The summer theatre has a rich history, dating back to Elector Karl Theodor of Bavaria. Since 1990, a theatre piece has been presented in the amphitheater every July. This year, the production is under the direction of Sebastian Bergau, who has taken over the leadership of the summer theatre.

The ensemble is a mix of professionals and acting students, who receive a fee but also contribute voluntary energy to the production. The theatre is funded through donations, and the amphitheater where the performances take place was rebuilt in 1985, following a campaign by the Blutenring association.

The performances will continue until the end of July, with specific dates as follows: July 4/5, July 10/11/12, July 17/18/19, and July 24/25/26. Due to high demand for good seats, it is recommended to arrive by 7 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

During the intermission, lanterns will be available for purchase, adding to the magical atmosphere of the production. It's worth noting that the information about dance enthusiasts meeting in the English Garden from 6 a.m. on July 20 is related to the Kocherlball, a separate event that celebrates traditional Bavarian dancing.

Experience the magic of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" under the stars in Munich's beautiful English Garden. Don't miss out on this enchanting outdoor theatre experience!
