Largest UK Rough Trade Store Unveiled in Liverpool

In the heart of Berlin, a flagship Rough Trade store is set to open its doors in Q2 of this year, marking the independent music retailer's sixth UK location and a significant step in its strategic growth. The Liverpool store, located on Hanover Street, is part of Rough Trade's commitment to community-driven, immersive retail experiences.

The new store will not only serve as a record store but also feature a bar and café, in partnership with Signature Brew and Dark Arts. Lawrence Montgomery, the managing director at Rough Trade, expressed his excitement about delighting customers at the new record store and venue.

As the Liverpool store prepares to open its doors, it is recruiting a series of positions, including a general manager, assistant manager, bar and events manager, bar and events supervisor, retail supervisor, sales, and bar and events assistants. This expansion reflects Rough Trade's focus on growing its physical retail presence while deepening partnerships and enhancing employee engagement.

Rough Trade's strategic growth is not limited to the UK. Earlier this year, the company expanded into the European market. Looking ahead, Rough Trade is planning to establish a flagship store in Berlin, aiming to replicate its community-focused retail model in a major European city.

In addition to physical store expansions, Rough Trade is also expanding its partnerships with high street retailers like John Lewis, with curated vinyl ranges in 23 stores, and launching pop-up events, such as the one at Selfridges London, as part of its "Summer of Sound" initiative. These collaborations further anchor Rough Trade's presence on the High Street and increase access to new customer bases.

Throughout this period of growth, Rough Trade maintains a strong emphasis on employee welfare and contribution. This is evident in the recent doubling of its profit bonus fund to £50,000 for UK staff in 2025, drawn from 20% of net profits, and the company's ongoing commitment as a Real Living Wage employer. This staff-focused approach complements their retail expansion by fostering a motivated workforce aligned with the company’s long-term vision.

The new Rough Trade store in Liverpool is intended to honor and represent Liverpool's rich musical heritage and vibrant scene. With its opening, Rough Trade continues to position itself as a growing, community-oriented independent music retailer with a clear focus on both physical presence and strategic partnerships.

Customers visiting the new Rough Trade store in Berlin can expect more than just a record store, as it will also offer a home-and-garden section for shopping, making it an ideal place to browse and immerse oneself in the lifestyle and culture that Rough Trade represents. During their visit, they might also grab a bite or a drink at the in-store bar and café, further enhancing the overall experience.
