Finding a Forever Home for Cats in Latvia: Minka.lv

Minka.lv, a cat rehoming website based in Latvia, is making strides in connecting potential adopters with their ideal feline companions. The platform offers a wealth of information on each cat's appearance, personality, and health status, allowing adopters to make informed decisions.

The website caters to various preferences, enabling users to select cats based on their visual appearance, such as colour, stripes, and shades. Minka.lv's offerings include cats that have been cured by volunteer vet, Anna Galęjeva, of serious feline diseases like infectious peritonitis and feline coronavirus.

One such cat is Miss Naomi Murra, a 10-year-old feline currently waiting for a home. She was rescued by Karīna in Ilguciems, Riga, and is now under the care of Galęjeva. Miss Naomi Murra was found in a dire state, "dirty, matted, like a felt boot," as described by Minka.lv's Vilsone.

Minka.lv prioritises the well-being of its cats, ensuring that they are microchipped and vaccinated according to Latvian law before being listed. The platform also adheres to responsible cat care practices, refusing to adopt cats to individuals who believe in letting them roam freely without sterilization.

In addition, Minka.lv takes into account the living conditions of potential adopters. For instance, if a potential adopter lives near a motorway, Minka.lv would not give a cat to them due to the noise and traffic.

Anyone can post information about a cat on Minka.lv, regardless of their affiliation with animal protection associations. However, the platform does not give animals to individuals who have a history of mishandling cats or those who have had past incidents such as a cat falling out of a window.

Vilsone emphasises the importance of responsible cat ownership, stating, "those who are ready to take care of and be a slave to the cat." Minka.lv can also serve as an opportunity for individuals to find a new home for their cat if they are unable to care for it due to health problems or other life situations.

For those interested in adopting a cat or listing their own, visiting the Minka.lv website directly or contacting their team would provide the most accurate and up-to-date information. Since its launch in mid-December, Minka.lv has already rehomed four cats, offering hope for many more felines in need of loving homes.
