"Fits the character" - Pig with heart-shaped spot on its fur - Meet Wilma, the Heart-Shaped Pig Sensation at Hannover Zoo
A pig at Hannover Zoo has become an internet sensation. Wilma, a Bentheimer land pig, has a heart-shaped spot on her fur, earning her the nickname 'Heart'. Wilma is one of three Bentheimer land pigs living at Zoo Hannover's Meyers Hof. She's calm and friendly, seeking contact with humans and her pig pals, Walter and Waltraud. These pigs can grow up to 75 centimeters tall and weigh up to 250 kilograms. The heart-shaped spot on Wilma's fur is a rare genetic trait, described as a 'whim of nature' by her keeper, Yule Moeller. The Bentheimer land pig breed was first bred in the middle of the 19th century. After a decline, it has seen a resurgence in recent years. Wilma, the heart-shaped pig, is a unique addition to Zoo Hannover. Her calm demeanor and distinctive feature have made her a crowd favorite. The Bentheimer land pig breed's resurgence is a positive sign for these gentle giants.
