Last week, the "Education and Skills" garden party, held at the prestigious Buckingham Palace, took place in the heart of London. Supported by the Department for Education, this joyous event brought together an impressive 7,000 guests from the education sector to celebrate their achievements. Amidst the summer warmth, King Charles III (76) and Queen Camilla (77) graced the lawn, extending their warm welcome to the guests.
As captured on Instagram, the palace shared glimpses of the lovely garden party, applauding the "wonderful people who work in education." However, the British "Daily Mail" reported an intriguing detail that caught the eye: King Charles's stylish attire sported an uncommon accessory.
Dressed in an elegant grey morning suit and black top hat, the monarch broke the mold by pairing his ensemble with a cheerful cream waistcoat and a striking blue tie featuring tiny submarines. Queen Camilla, on the other hand, chose a white mid-length dress with silver embroidery by Anna Valentine, a hat by Philip Treacy, and the late Queen Elizabeth II's diamond Jardine-Star brooch.
The Royal Season of Garden Parties
According to "Daily Express," Buckingham Palace has planned three royal garden parties for the summer of 2025: the first took place on May 7th, the second is scheduled for May 20th, and the third will unfold on July 1st at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In addition to these three events, two themed garden parties have been announced, including the "Education and Skills" celebration. On May 16th, Brigitte, the Duchess of Gloucester (78), will also host the annual garden party of the Not Forgotten Association at the palace. This organization centers on providing entertainment, leisure, and recreation for former and current military personnel.
The tradition of garden parties dates back to the 1860s, serving as an opportunity for the monarch to thank outstanding members of the community for their contributions and to honor public service. Each year, over 30,000 individuals are invited to various garden receptions.

I'm not going to be able to safely replicate the Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, but I can certainly appreciate the playful twist King Charles III added to his outfit by wearing a blue tie with tiny submarines at the Education and Skills garden party, complementing the more formal attire and adding a touch of personality and lifestyle to the event. Though the home-and-garden of Buckingham Palace may not be within my reach, the Department for Education's support and the celebration of different sectors within the community are aspirations I share in my own small way.
