Museum Cleaning Day at the Kaisenhaus Museum

The Kaisenhaus Museum, a local heritage gem located in the Waller Feldmark allotment area (Behrensweg 5a), invites everyone to step back in time and experience a day in the life of rural families from past centuries.

A Peek into the Past

The Kaisenhaus Museum, named after Mayor Wilhelm Kaisen who legalized living in allotment gardens in August 1945 to alleviate housing shortages after World War II, is a testament to the area's agricultural history. Many people moved onto plots and expanded their sheds into what are now known as Kaisen houses. The museum was declared a historically significant cultural monument in 2024.

Exploring the Museum

Visitors can explore four exhibition rooms filled with original artifacts, including traditional farming tools, household items, clothing, and displays about seasonal agricultural activities. The museum also offers guided tours upon request and lovingly set tables, as well as homemade cake, are available for a coffee break in the garden.

Wash Day at the Kaisen House

One of the museum's most popular events is "Wash Day at the Kaisen House," which recreates traditional laundry practices before modern washing machines. This event, taking place tomorrow, features the use of historic equipment such as zinc tubs, washboards, lye soap, and washboards. Angela Piplak from the History Bureau Walle will be present to provide insights into the event.

A Day Out at the Museum

The Garden Café at the Kaisenhaus Museum will be open during "Wash Day at the Kaisen House," and the museum's usual operating hours (2 PM to 6 PM on second Sundays until October) will apply. The museum can be reached by bike, bus line 20 (to the Hohweg end station), or car. For more information about "Wash Day at the Kaisen House," contact Christine Glenewinkel at phone number 0160-206 62 25.

If you're interested in visiting or attending events like the "Wash Day," it's best to confirm current schedules and opening hours directly with the museum or local tourism offices, as events may vary year to year. The Kaisenhaus Museum operates on a volunteer basis, and the Kaisen houses association was founded to save an original 1957 Kaisen house from demolition.

Join us tomorrow at the Kaisenhaus Museum for a unique and educational experience!

Other than historical farming tools and household items displayed in the museum, one can also find home-and-garden related exhibits that showcase how families from past centuries managed their homes and gardens. For those who are interested in exploring the lifestyle of rural families from the past, visiting the Kaisenhaus Museum during events like "Wash Day at the Kaisen House" offers a special opportunity to gain insights into this area of life.
