Nursing Home in Köfering: Johannis Hospice Visits "Lydia's Donkey Sanctuary" at Eselhof
In a heartwarming display of care and compassion, residents of the Johannes Hospice were treated to an animal-assisted therapy session at Lydia's Donkey Meadow in Kofering. The visit, organised by the Johanniter transport service, was aimed at enhancing the well-being of hospice residents by engaging them with animals in a natural, peaceful environment.
Lydia Wein, the owner of Lydia's Donkey Meadow, performed a special show for the hospice guests. The highlight of the outing was when the guests were allowed to sit next to one of the donkeys on a chair. The two donkeys, Vitus and Lora, were well-behaved during the visit, delighting the guests with small tricks such as bowing, spreading out a blanket, fetching pillows, and picking up hats.
The donkeys brought smiles and joy to the visitors at their first meeting. Robert Beck, Nadine Schneele, and Kristina Froehler, the care staff accompanying the guests, gave a brief introduction to the farm activities prior to the performance. Lydia's Donkey Meadow offers animal-assisted therapy and donkey walks, providing a change of environment away from the clinical setting, fostering relaxation and social interaction among participants.
Kristina Froehler, Pflegedienstleitung of the Johannes Hospice, expressed her gratitude for Lydia Wein's generous donation and the memorable moments provided to the guests through the outing. Lydia Wein provided the show free of charge as a generous donation to the Johannes Hospice.
