Park University's Music Orchestra to Kick Off 2021-22 Season with Inaugural Concert on October 1

Filippo Ciabatti, D.M.A., a renowned music conductor, will lead Park University's International Center for Music (ICM) Orchestra for their first concert of the 2021-22 season. The concert, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m., will take place inside the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University's flagship Parkville Campus.

Ciabatti, known for his roles as Assistant Conductor at Boston Baroque and as the conductor of the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, has selected three familiar works for the program. The first work in the program is "The Hebrides" (also known as "Fingal's Cave") overture composed by Felix Mendelssohn. This piece, known for its mood of brooding melancholy alternating with moments of great tenderness and excitement, was written to evoke impressions of the coast of Scotland.

The concert will also feature Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor," with Kyoshiro Hirama, a 2020 Park ICM graduate and current ICM graduate student pursuing a Master of Music in Performance degree, as the featured soloist.

Mendelssohn's "The Hebrides" will be followed by Mozart's "Prague Symphony," a composition written for his return visit to the city where his opera, The Marriage of Figaro, had been enthusiastically received. The concert concludes with "Symphony No. 38 in D Major (K. 504)" composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The ICM at Park University is hosting the concert, and admission to the concert is free, but reservations are required by e-mailing Gus Fernandez Agreda at the ICM's website. Masks are required inside the Chapel and social distance seating will be implemented.

Ciabatti's conducting repertoire involves classical and baroque music, demonstrated by his involvement with Boston Baroque, a period instrument ensemble focusing on historically informed performances. His professional activities show a growing reputation within American classical music circles, particularly in historically significant and educational institutions.
