Pedestrians and cyclists to utilize designated pathway

In the heart of Bremen, plans have surfaced to reallocate road space in the vicinity of the former Bundeswehr high-rise for a greener and more pedestrian-friendly environment. Spokesperson René Müller, from the Senator's House for Urban Development, Mobility, and Housing, confirmed these plans.

The changes will concern Daniel-von-Büren-Straße and its adjoining Breitenweg. The transformation seeks to widen the existing pedestrian and cycling paths, enhance mobility in the locality, and refurbish the external area of Q 45. Moreover, the consideration of new tree locations is underway, as per Müller.

Gewoba refers to its renovation and new construction project at Falkenstraße 45 as Q 45, with plans to build 162 apartments on the former Bundeswehr high-rise and two additional buildings.

Concerns about creating a new traffic bottleneck on a busy highway appear to be unfounded. Müller explained that the two-lane on-ramp from Daniel-von-Büren-Straße to Breitenweg won't be affected by this decision. He stated that the current two lanes are not necessary, as only one lane is available for this direction of traffic at the Falkenstraße/Daniel-von-Büren-Straße intersection.

Regarding the timeline for these changes, Müller stated that an agreement was reached between the departments of mobility and urban planning, ASV, and Gewoba at the end of 2021. The intention is to execute the project in parallel with or immediately following the completion of construction work at Q 45, which Gewoba currently expects to accomplish in 2026. However, Müller was unable to provide any cost estimates as no concrete planning has been finalized yet.

While the search results do not provide information about a larger urban development plan or the completion date of this specific project, consulting local news sources or official city announcements from Bremen may offer more accurate and up-to-date information.

With the transformation of Daniel-von-Büren-Straße and Breitenweg, urban development in Bremen is set to introduce a relaxing lifestyle as new pedestrian and cycling paths are widened. As part of this project, home-and-garden elements, such as tree planting and the refurbishment of Q 45, will further enrich the local environment.
