Potsdam debuts its first recycling center compatible with smartphone applications

In an effort to make waste recycling more convenient for its citizens, the city of Potsdam has extended the hours of operation for its recycling center in the Drewitz district. This extension is part of a pilot project, allowing the center to be available for an additional three hours on six weekdays.

The Drewitz recycling center, which can be accessed using Bluetooth technology, opens automatically at the booked time via your smartphone. No staff is required for the operation of the center.

Residents can dispose of a variety of materials, including bulky waste, lightweight packaging, paper, cardboard, metal scrap, and glass, for free at the Drewitz recycling center. However, it's important to note that paint, used oil, and car batteries are not suitable for disposal at the center and must be assessed and disposed of safely by professionals.

The city's deputy mayor for public order and safety, Brigitte Meier, stated that the city aims to make waste recycling more convenient for citizens. The Drewitz recycling center is an extension of the city's initial offer of extended access to a recycling center for bulky waste disposal through the use of a mobile app.

The mobile app allows citizens to book a time slot to access the recycling center in Drewitz. It's intended to make bulky waste disposal more accessible and convenient for residents of Potsdam.

However, details about the operation and features of the mobile app are not currently available. To get accurate information, you would likely need to consult the official Potsdam city website, the local waste management authority, or contact the recycling center directly.

The managing director of Potsdam's municipal waste management company, Burkhardt Greiff, expressed curiosity about the future utilization of this offer. The city is hopeful that this new service will be well-received and utilized by its residents. Waste disposal at the Drewitz recycling center is limited to 15 minutes per visit.

The Drewitz recycling center, now accessible through a mobile app, is an initiative by the city of Potsdam to improve home-and-garden living by making bulky waste disposal more convenient. This smartphone-controlled center, which also caters to lifestyle aspects like lightweight packaging, paper, cardboard, metal scrap, and glass recycling, is part of the city's broader lifestyle change approach.
