Refurbished Baroque Greenhouse Earns Protection Medal: Schwandorf's Monument Honored

The Baroque orangery at Schloss Fronberg in Schwandorf, built in 1768, has been brought back to its former glory after a significant restoration project, completed in 2021. This historical monument, near-collapsing before the restoration, is now a vibrant part of the park, serving as a backdrop for theater performances, open-air cinema, and medieval festivals.

The restoration work was carried out in a historically appropriate manner, preserving the orangery's original integrity. The unique feature of its low hall in the mansard roof, lined with wallpaper, and the Baroque window facade, featuring oak columns painted with linseed oil, have been carefully restored to their original splendour.

Three residents of Schwandorf - Johann Berger, Franz Xaver Hölzl, and Andreas Schuster - were honoured for their efforts in restoring the orangery. Their work was recognised as crucial in maintaining the orangery's status as an important historical and architectural monument from the Baroque period. By preserving and restoring this valuable cultural heritage site, they ensured that the historical character and aesthetic of Schloss Fronberg are preserved for future generations.

In addition to the honourees, Freifrau and Freiherren Ingrid, Hans-Christoph, and Hans-Friedrich Riederer von Paar zu Schönau were also honoured for their contributions to the restoration project.

The restored Baroque orangery stands as a testament to the dedication and hard work of these individuals, and to the importance of preserving our cultural heritage. As visitors stroll through the picturesque park at Schloss Fronberg, they can now appreciate the beauty and history of this remarkable structure, a shining example of Baroque architecture in Bavaria.

The honourees, Johann Berger, Franz Xaver Hölzl, and Andreas Schuster, played significant roles in restoring the orangery's interior-design, maintaining its historical integrity and Baroque charm. The renovated home-and-garden site, with its rejuvenated aesthetic, serves as a living testament to the importance of lifestyle preservation and ensures an inspiring connection to the Baroque period.
