Russians advised on furniture to avoid purchasing

In the spring season, furniture sales surge as retailers slash prices on existing inventory to attract buyers. These sales are typically tied to holidays and the beginning of the gardening season. However, Andrei Ragozin, founder and general director of STAVROS furniture, offers advice on what to avoid when purchasing furniture.

There are several types of furniture that may disappoint buyers due to their low quality, impracticality, or fast deterioration. Ragozin suggests avoiding furniture made from unlaminated particleboard, as it is prone to moisture damage, peeling, and easy breakage. Instead, opt for furniture with laminated particleboard or high-density fiberboard (HDF), whose edges are protected.

Experts also caution against buying cheap sofas with low-density polyurethane foam of less than 30 kg/m³. These models quickly sag, lose shape, and become uncomfortable. A better choice would be models with spring blocks or high-density foam (HR) of 30-55 kg/m³.

Foldable beds and sofas with a thin mattress (less than 15 mm) should be avoided due to their poor back support. They are suitable only for temporary guest use, not for daily use.

Plastic furniture, such as chairs, tables, and sofas, should generally be avoided for indoor living spaces. It easily scratches, appears cheap, and can yellow and crack over time. However, designer plastic furniture in the hi-tech style can be a stylish, high-quality exception, though it comes at a higher price.

Low-quality transformable furniture, which can change shape or function based on human needs, should be approached with caution. The mechanisms of such furniture may break down under frequent use, leading to injuries. It is best to stick to proven brands with good reviews when purchasing transformable furniture.

Freelancers, specialists, and remote workers should avoid very cheap office chairs (under 7,000 rubles) due to their poor construction and potential harm to the back. An ergonomic modern chair is a better investment for both the body and overall satisfaction.

Previous warnings have highlighted the health risks associated with furniture made from particleboard. When choosing furniture, it is essential to prioritize both quality and practicality, especially in outdoor settings where maintenance can be challenging. Brands known for their quality and customer service can provide more reliable options. For outdoor furniture, materials such as powder-coated metal or durable wood alternatives are recommended for ease of maintenance and durability.

  1. In the midst of redesigning your interior-design, it's crucial to avoid furniture pieces made from unlaminated particleboard, as they are susceptible to moisture damage, peeling, and easy breakage.
  2. For those seeking to enhance their home-and-garden lifestyle, it's advisable to select outdoor furniture made from reliable materials, such as powder-coated metal or durable wood alternatives, for their ease of maintenance and durability.
