Senior Center of Clovis: Embracing Maturity aged 50 and Above as the Clovis Lifestyle!
New Clovis Senior Activity Center Opens Doors to Vibrant Senior Community
The city of Clovis has unveiled its new Senior Activity Center, a 25,000-square-foot facility designed to cater to the needs of seniors aged 50 and older. The grand opening took place on November 20, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the city's commitment to promoting health, independence, and community among its elderly residents.
The new center, made possible by a mix of city bonds, grant funding, a dedicated community, and a $1 million donation from the Smittcamp Family Foundation, boasts a robust lineup of programming. This includes fitness and wellness classes, creative and educational workshops, social activities, volunteer opportunities, and nutrition services.
The facility is equipped with a fully functional commercial kitchen serving warm, nutritious meals, a gymnasium for physical activities, and a modern art studio and classrooms for enrichment. The centerpiece is a 300-person banquet hall with a stage for gatherings and performances, providing an ideal setting for various events.
Membership to the center is free for Clovis residents and $25 annually for those outside the city limits. A $10 activity card grants access to an array of classes and events, many with minimal additional fees. The center's membership is growing rapidly, with up to 600+ people participating daily.
Kathy Eide Casas, a valley native with a career in politics, public policy, and public relations, has been instrumental in bringing this project to life. Her work has been featured in several local publications, including Valley Health Magazine.
The Clovis Senior Activity Center complements city-wide recreational offerings such as the Clovis Mobile Rec program, which brings games, sports gear, crafts, and activities to local parks in a safe environment. However, for directed services such as counseling, health screenings, or senior placement assistance, local agencies like A-Plus Senior Placement Services in Clovis offer those types of support separately.
The center operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, with select evenings extended until 8 p.m. Seniors can drop in at any time during these hours. The center also features a dedicated billiards room for leisure activities.
For current schedules or specific classes, it's recommended to consult the Clovis city or senior services websites or social media profiles directly for updated listings and announcements. The center's website, cloviseniors.org, provides information on signing up, reading the newsletter, checking out activities, classes, and more.
With its wide range of activities and services, the new Clovis Senior Activity Center is poised to become a vibrant community hub, encouraging social interaction and active lifestyles among older adults. As City Councilmember Matt Basgall stated, the center has proven to be a place of fun, learning, and community.
The Clovis Senior Activity Center, with its diverse programming in fitness, wellness, arts, and social events, is a testament to a home-and-garden lifestyle conducive to senior citizens, offering a nurturing environment for growth and exploration. This new hub, Steamrolled by the city's commitment and a passionate community, is anticipated to blossom as a flourishing centerpoint for seniors, enriching their lifestyle with each new day.
