Successful Youth Endeavor Achieves Its Goal

In the heart of Fuldabrück, Germany, a new recreational hub has taken shape over the past six months, much to the delight of local residents. The pump track facility, a unique space designed for cycling, BMX, skateboarding, and more, has become a popular spot for youth and adults alike, thanks in part to the combined efforts of the community, local authorities, and external funding sources.

The idea for the pump track facility originated from the local community, with children, teenagers, and parents in Fuldabrück expressing their desire for such a facility. This grassroots initiative gained momentum when parents collected around 100 signatures in support of the project and submitted them to the municipality.

Mayor Andreas Damm, who has been an advocate for the pump track facility, spoke about its significance on the FFH microphone. He expressed his pleasure at the utilization of the facility, despite the "precarious" financial situation of the municipality. The construction cost of approximately 300,000 euros was not solely borne by the local government. Funding came from a mix of sources, including the European Union and the state of Hesse, through the LEADER program, which contributed around 140,000 euros.

The construction of the pump track facility strengthened the case for politics, as per Mayor Damm. It was a decision made by politics, he said, but one that enjoyed broad community support, not just from a few individuals. The facility's utilization also strengthens its case, he added, indicating its success in becoming a popular local recreation spot.

The pump track facility, completed in December 2024, can be used with bicycles, balance bikes, scooters, and inline skates. It features specially designed tracks with rollers, banked turns, and jumps that riders use to maintain momentum by pumping their bodies rather than pedaling.
