Synthesized Science: Cutting-edge innovation and experimentation, unexplored realms delved into.
The Museum of the Home is set to host the Stitch London event as part of London Textile Month in September 2025. This exciting event promises a variety of textile-related workshops and talks, all aimed at celebrating the rich history and diverse cultural techniques of embroidery, block printing, and quilting.
Attendees can look forward to hands-on workshops such as:
- Stitching Palestinian Heritage with the Tatreez Collective: Learn traditional Palestinian embroidery techniques and contribute to a collective project.
- Block Printing Workshop with Haveli Diaries: Participants will create their own cushion covers while exploring Indian block printing traditions.
- Sewing Symbols of Resistance Banner Making Workshop with Alice Gabb: Focusing on the visual culture of social movements and resistance, this workshop invites participants to create banners that symbolise their beliefs.
- Victorian ‘Crazy’ Quilt Workshop with Cris Prete: Offering an opportunity to try Victorian-style patchwork quilting, this workshop promises to be a fun and educational experience.
In addition to these workshops, the event will feature a fascinating stitched representation of neurons to giant Jupiter, showcasing the creative potential of textile art.
The progress of the project can be viewed on Stitch London's picture blog, and the workshop times and information can be found on the event's website. The event is free and does not require booking; attendees can simply drop in.
The public is encouraged to use the hashtag #stitchedscience to share their experiences during the event. The event is open to individuals regardless of their knitting or stitching skills, and the Stitch London team will join the museum in four days to create the world's largest handmade solar system.
