Taraz Celebrates Zhambyl Zhabayev's 175th Anniversary
A roundtable discussion was held in Taraz to celebrate the 175th anniversary of Zhambyl Zhabayev, the renowned akyn and improviser. The event, titled 'Aitys aqtangeri, olen zhyrdyñ dulduly', brought together local creative intelligentsia and descendants of the poet. Great-grandchildren of Zhambyl Zhabayev, Muratkhan Zhambylov, Batyrkhan Zhambylov, and great-great-grandson Abdrakhman Zhambylov, attended as honorary guests.
The event was hosted by the museum-reserve and regional culture department. It included an exhibition showcasing the history of ancient Taraz, the life, and work of Zhambyl Zhabayev. The poet's works have been translated into more than 50 languages and are known in various countries. In Kazakhstan, Batyrkhan Zhambylov and Abdrakhman Zhambylov, great-grandsons of the poet, continue his legacy.
The Jambyl Region, a city, a district, rural districts, villages, a college, schools, and streets bear his name. A hotel and a monument in Taraz honour his memory. The roundtable discussion aimed to share experiences in understanding and preserving Zhambyl Zhabayev's creative heritage.
