Transformed event originated from alcohol concept

This Sunday marks the 14th anniversary of Münster's largest fashion flea market, Kleiderwirbel. Back in 2008, founder Katerina Lindenblatt envisioned an indoor, university canteen-based women's fashion flea market, a concept initially met with hesitance. However, the success of the pioneering event was swift.

Lindenblatt reminisces about the forming lines at the entrance, recalling her childhood passion for flea markets, thrift shopping, and supportive side hustles. Fast forward to today, Kleiderwirbel has grown and evolved—additional offerings for men's clothing and curated selection of goods, including jewelry and accessories, now complement the selection. The expanded sister flea market, Owner Exchange, caters to various items beyond clothing.

Competition for a sales stand is fierce, with around 150 positions raffled off and a long waiting list. Despite increased stand fees compared to classic flea markets, interest remains undeterred. Exhibitors appreciate the covered, equipped stands and eager shoppers.

The university canteen transforms into a second-hand paradise once more, with approximately seven tons of clothing spanning 250 tables and 120 racks available for new owners. The entrance fee remains €4, reduced to €1 after 15:30 for the popular happy hour.

In its 14th year, Kleiderwirbel solidifies its status as a staple event in Münster's event calendar. Though historical details about its inception and growth are scarce, the market's focus on sustainability and fashion makes it an essential component of the city's vibrant cultural scene and supportive community.

Lindenblatt reflects on her childhood interests, reminiscing about flea markets, thrift shopping, and nurturing side hustles, which inspired her to establish the women's fashion flea market, Kleiderwirbel. Over the years, this event has expanded beyond clothing, incorporating home-and-garden items and jewelry, transforming it into a lifestyle shopping destination.
